Our Goal

Our goal is to limit the influence of tobacco and nicotine industries on our communities, and clear shelves of harmful tobacco and nicotine products that attract young people in our communities and put them at risk of nicotine addiction. This matters because:

  • Nicotine addiction can negatively impact mental health symptoms. 93% of vapers reported feeling more stress, depression or anxiety.
  • Vapes and tobacco products are destructive to the environment. Trillions of cigarette butts make their way into the environment each year, now joined by vape waste. Additionally, vapes can contain toxic chemicals, heavy metals, and residual nicotine, posing serious threats to our water, air, and land.
  • Tobacco products are disproportionately marketed to Black, Hispanic, Latino, and the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as young people, causing further harm to these groups.

Join us as we demand freedom from nicotine addiction and industry influence–for our friends, family, generation, and planet. We’re educating and mobilizing to remove the large number of tobacco and nicotine products that are already illegal from shelves.

Did you know that 86% of all e-cigarette sales are for illegal products?

You’re likely familiar with illegal products already, such as products restricted by state or local laws, but available via online sales - like flavored vapes (including disposable ones) and some nicotine pouches.

Did you know that only 34 vape and 20 Zyn products are approved to be marketed?

Yet, there are thousands of competitors available on the market. Imagine what your community would look like if all those products disappeared from the market… It would have a pretty big impact. It would help make our communities cleaner, it would improve air quality, and so much more.

These illegal products should not be available to harm people and our communities, and increase the risk of nicotine addiction.

You can make a difference right now by joining our call to remove these products from store shelves and online retailers.

Recent Progress

Communities nationwide are leading the charge by focusing on removing illegal products.

State Attorneys General (AGs) are our legal heroes, providing financial resources for prevention and education, as well as quitting support. Many have already taken action to hold tobacco and vape companies accountable for their harmful products.

  • In January 2025, AGs in Illinois, California, Connecticut and Minnesota sued High Light Vapes, a company that specifically marketed their products to look like “actual highlighters”.
  • California AG, Rob Bonta, provided grants to local government agencies for fighting illegal sales and marketing to minors, including seizing illegal flavored tobacco products from retail shelves.
  • Vermont Attorney General, Charity Clark, got Amazon to pay up for shipping tobacco products to Vermont consumers, violating the state’s law banning online sales.
  • AGs in Colorado, New York, Arizona, New Mexico, North Carolina, Washington, DC, and elsewhere have held Juul accountable for addicting young people to nicotine products. Thanks to their work, Juul is paying funds that will support prevention, cessation, and education resources in these states.
