Monster Makeover

Confession: I spend a lot of time debating what would happen if I woke up on a random Tuesday with super powers, or some random Hulk-like features.
Mostly, I assume I’d have a really hard time pouring juice, because I think being able to accurately levitate a juice jug while simultaneously levitating a glass would be difficult at first. Gotta work your way up to things, you know? And if I woke up with monster hands, I’d probably rip a car door off accidentally. There would be messes.
So, I’m sure you can understand my jealousy when Eddie, one of truth’s tour managers, became a monster. And not just any monster! Eddie ended up a strawberry Flavor Monster. (If you don’t know what a Flavor Monster is, download the game in the App Store or Google Play! It’s free!)
Of course, he didn’t just wake up six miles outside of Tulsa with a monster face, magic powers and a backpack full of fruit snacks, which is how my superpower daydreams usually start. (Don’t judge.)
He sat still for 5 hours, shirtless and surrounded by cameras, while the amazing special effects artist Rod Maxwell worked his magic for an episode of Syfy’s show Face Off…and at the end, he looked like that monster above.
According to Eddie, being a strawberry Flavor Monster involves a lot of weirdness. From touching his eyeballs—he’s never worn contacts before—to getting a sponge bath from a complete stranger trying to remove excess glue. That’s NOT in any of my daydreams. And having a bath to remove glue on my skin sounds particularly not fun.
